There is no better feeling than waking up in the great outdoors surrounded by nature. Whether you’re taking in the scenery on the mountains, or listening to the sounds of the forest, camping or caravanning is a rewarding experience in more ways than one.

Whatever type of camping trip you are on, and no matter if you’re bedding down in a caravan or getting back to nature in a tent, it’s likely you will have to put your cooking skills to the test by preparing a meal by the campfire at some point. So, when you’re under pressure to feed hungry mouths, what is your go-to recipe?

The hardcore camping enthusiasts among you have probably had your fair share of sausage and beans with s’mores - that’s marshmallows to you and me - for dessert, so how about trying something a bit different the next time you’re on cooking duty?

At Ventura, we like to think we get right to the heart of what makes our customers tick, so we’ve come up with a few quick and easy recipes that we think you’ll thoroughly enjoy.

Cheesy egg croissants

Ingredients

  • 8 eggs
  • 100g grated cheddar
  • A splash of milk
  • Salt and pepper
  • Ready-to-eat croissants

Directions

There is a reason why they say breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and when you’re preparing for a strenuous hike or another outdoor activity, you need to ensure your body is fuelled and prepared. Cheesy scrambled egg croissants are an ideal option, and won’t take too much time to make.

In order to prepare this meal for four people, simply whisk the ingredients in a bowl before pouring into a saucepan and gently heating. For the perfect fluffy eggs, stir continuously until they are softly scrambled, then mix in a few chives for added flavour. Finally, split open the croissants and put the eggs inside. Voila!

Ingredients

  • A large handful of spinach leaves
  • 1 large onion
  • 2 large potatoes
  • 10 eggs
  • Olive oil

Directions

This delicious meal option is filling and warming, providing the perfect energy boost after a hard day. With just five ingredients, it’s simple too! All you need to do is tip the spinach into a colander and wilt with a pan of boiling water that you have already heated on the fire.

Next, heat the oil in a non-stick frying pan and gently cook the onion and potato for around ten minutes - or until they have softened. While these are cooking, beat the eggs together and season before stirring the spinach into the potatoes. Then, pour in the eggs and stir occasionally until the ingredients set together, forming a hearty and delicious Spanish omelette. To serve, simply cut into wedges.

Sweet treat kebabs

Ingredients

  • A punnet of strawberries
  • A bag of marshmallows
  • 3 digestive biscuits

Directions

Ensure your children are happy campers with these easy-to-make sweet treat kebabs! To make, simply thread four long metal skewers with alternate marshmallows and strawberries, then carefully hold over the campfire, turning slowly until they are lightly toasted. To finish, sprinkle the biscuits over the top, allowing a minute or so to cool before serving.

An American classic with a twist

Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon of chocolate chips
  • Ice cream cones (enough for everyone!)
  • A bag of mini marshmallows

Directions

Another easy option with delicious results, s'mores can be made that little bit different by adding chocolate chips and an ice cream cone! Simply place one teaspoon of choc chips into an ice cream cone, followed by a layer of mini marshmallows. For the best results, continue to layer until the cone is completely full.

Next, wrap the cones tightly in tin foil and heat on the campfire for around five minutes, or until the marshmallows are melted. Delicious!
