Can you remember the feeling of passing your driving test? Or of taking your first car journey without an instructor in the seat next to you?
This year marks forty years of Snooper as well as ten years since we launched the Ventura brand.
To celebrate 40 years of Snooper, we’re hosting a competition for you to win a Snooper DVR-4HD G3 dash cam worth £149.99.
The DVR-4HD G3 dash cam includes speed camera alerts, forward collision and lane departure warnings, 3-axis g-sensors and GPS location data which helps to protect your no claims discount and ensuring you're not a victim of an insurance scam.
To be in with a chance of winning, we’re asking you to look back on your own history of driving and tell us about your first car.
We’re looking for interesting stories of your ride, whether that’s stories of what it felt like to be the first person in your friend group to get a car or being able to drive impacted your social life, alternatively, it could be about the problems you had regularly had to deal with to get your car moving each morning.
We asked our sales & marketing director, Philip Jones, about his first car and he said:
"My first was a Red Fiat Panda 4x4 – E924 VJA. I bought in March 1988 for a trip planned to Abersoch over Easter with the boys.It was that or go in a friend’s lime green Zastava Yugo 311 (Google it). We didn’t fancy our chances of getting there in the Yugo and the Panda was the only car the dealer could have ready in time – visited the dealer on Tuesday, collected the car on Thursday. We had great fun driving on the beach to see if we could get it stuck! My other key memory of the car was how much money I lost when it came time to trading it in!"
Thanks to everyone that entered our competition. The winner has now been notified and the prize is on its way.
There were so many great photos and stories, we've listed our favourite entries below.
My beloved Peugeot 205, bought while I lived in Brussels in 1991. Finally mastered driving on the right with all the different rules of “priority” and then had to unlearn it all when I moved back to the UK! All with no phone or satnav - how did we do it?!! #SnooperFirstCar pic.twitter.com/5RhbcxerGV— Anne Boyes (@AnnieMay64) September 15, 2019
@SnooperUK in 1988 my first car was a Vauxhall Chevette, did a road trip from London to Cornwall with my mates, great time. No pic of the car but here is a pic of my 2nd car a Fiat X1/9, tons of fun in that #SnooperFirstCar pic.twitter.com/FzzQKOtOnv— Tony Mann (@LuckyGonk) August 13, 2019
@SnooperUK my first car was a Citroen 2CV4 bought secondhand in 1979 and took on a six month tour of France, Portugal and Spain. It was epic! Eventually car was written off when I was hit by an articulated lorry on the South Circular. Sad day #SnooperFirstCar pic.twitter.com/nTBh7FuQBc— Paul Griffiths ???? (@paulmk17) August 12, 2019
@SnooperUK first and second car. Love them equally as much and too many good stories to fit in a tweet! But scenic drives with my friends was the best thing to do in the car ????????#snooperfirstcar pic.twitter.com/uvlrYT8HfD— ‼️ Callum ‼️ (@Blaze_Swifters) August 9, 2019

So long ago I can't find any photos, but I loved my first little car - nothing spectacular just a beige ford fiesta - unfortunately someone else liked it a lot too and it was stolen.
Spent weeks driving round trying to spot it, but no luck.
@snooperuk #snooperfirstcar my first car after passing my test in December 2007 was an R reg white 3 door Vauxhall corsa 1.2. It was a little modified at the time with alloys and a nice sounding exhaust(which came off on the motorway) never to be seen again. Scrapped it after:(— Jon (@Jonmag123) September 8, 2019
#SnooperFirstCar. 1964 mini cooper, wicked oil leak rusted far too much, more black smoke than anything lasted 4 weeks— Tom Baines (@TomBaines3) August 19, 2019
#SnooperFirstCar. my 1st car was a ford cortina mk 1 and I really loved it no reversing lights so at night I had to have the indicators on to see where I was going. Wish I had it now— Paul Green (@paramotorpaul) August 13, 2019
@SnooperUK #SnooperFirstCar It was a brant new blue Nissan Micra and I put diesel in instead of petrol the first time I filled it up. I had to get the tank drained and it never ran right from that day on— thomas kirby (@tomkirb) August 13, 2019
@SnooperUK My First Car was a Purple and "Orange Rust" P Reg Fiesta! That was only running on 3 cylinders when I got it ???? It had an awful clutch and I hated driving it but still I loved it for giving me freedom. #SnooperFirstCar.— Chrissie ???? (@StarCrackers) August 13, 2019
Morris Minor, older than me and stolen after 6 days before we'd taken any photos #SnooperFirstCar— Lynne O'Connor (@spanglisher) September 15, 2019
#SnooperFirstCar it was a blue, boxy Volvo 340. I don't have any photos but can still remember the registration some 20+ years later!— Emma davison (@pryriggfarm) September 15, 2019
#SnooperFirstCar My first car was my granddads old VW Beetle. It didn’t have a petrol gauge so if I was driving along and the engine started to falter my passenger would have to grapple around on the floor to switch on the reserve tank!— ????????Mary???????? (@wzquitecontrary) August 13, 2019
#snooperFirstCar Still have my first car after 3 years..my trusty Vauxhall Corsa!— dawn taverner (@taverner86) August 13, 2019
Bright Red 1981 Ford Escort XR3 lookalike, it looked the part but with cheaper insurance #SnooperFirstCar— Shaun Robertson (@srob030869) August 13, 2019
#snooperfirstcar my first car was an 1982 x reg tiny Suzuki SC100 which my Dad bought me when I took my first driving test in 1991— Cheryl Lee (@MsCarer) August 14, 2019
My #SnooperFirstCar was a Ford Cortina Mk 1... It was a present but I hated it at the time thinking it was old fashioned. Only kept it for a month and then sold it! Yes I WAS an idiot!— G13NN H ???????????????????????????? ???????? ???????? ???????? (@GlennHutton) August 13, 2019
#snooperfirstcar a gold fiat Punto and all I remember is that it was constantly breaking down. I didn't have it long!!— Nicola L sadler (@NicolaLsadler1) August 13, 2019
A Black Rover Metro. It used to eat it's way through Spark Plugs every month and I used to be able to pull away in 4th gear, but it gave me Independence! #SnooperFirstCar— Kate Loader (@kateloader) August 13, 2019
My first car was a Chrysler Avenger in blue with a vinyl roof. I thought it was cool because it looked like a MKII Escort ???? #SnooperFirstCar— Anthony Bravender (@salvagebrav) August 13, 2019
My uni housemate's #SnooperFirstCar was a Ford Capri. Unreliable but beloved - once we fit in 13 people on a dare, in a mad tangle of arms and legs (didn't drive it though!). Remember trying to bump start it one morning (standard), straining like childbirth. He had the brakes on.— Jiminia Cricket (@JiminyC75992824) August 14, 2019
It was a 1976 red Vauxhall Viva HC 2 door with more rust than metal but oh so comfy seats. #SnooperFirstCar— Angela Walker (@walk1961) August 13, 2019
@SnooperUK My first car was a bright yellow Peugeot 107 which I adored! I started a new business & needed to pick up stock every day. It may have been a small car but it was a tardis! I got a few laughs from my (all male) suppliers but I loved it all the same ???? #SnooperFirstCar— Kirsty Taylor (@KirstyT25) August 13, 2019
i've just purchased my first car as taking my test in October! can't wait to have the freedom at 42!! #SnooperFirstCar— ✾ cher ✾ (@Cher1977Sherri) September 15, 2019
@SnooperUK #SnooperFirstCar My first car: 1969 Ford Escort Mk 1. I loved that car - the paint kept flaking off but it was a classic (and very conveniently, I could take the key out and leave the engine running !!)— Lizzie O'Donnell (@LizB62) September 10, 2019
Sadly, too far back in the mists of time for a photo, but my #SnooperFirstCar was a Mk1 Vauxhall Viva in a nice blue colour - not a standard Vauxhall blue, but (as I later discovered) cheap gloss paint from Woollies! Very stylish! Cost the princely sum of £65. Happy Days!!— paul smith (@_PapaSierra) August 13, 2019
My first car was an MG Metro in black with full sports interior. Thought I was the bees knees owning the boy racer car at the tender age of 18. Woke up a week after buying it to find a flat tyre. When I tried to jack it up to change the wheel, Jack went straight through the floor— Steve ☕ (@pieman1979) August 9, 2019
@SnooperUK #SnooperFirstCar I don’t have a picture to hand but my first car was a brand new green Peugeot 106. New because it came with three years free insurance, tax and breakdown so worked out cheaper to pay dealer price than pay for insurance on an older car.— Michelle (@purplecatlover) September 14, 2019
@SnooperUK #SnooperFirstCar my first car was a 1993 Peugeot 306 1.4 petrol. It was an absolute bucket but at 18 I loved it because it had massive wheels, the loudest exhaust ever and tinted windows pmsl the first night I passed I ended up driving 300 miles and spending about £80— chris allardyce DYCIE (@dycie1988) August 9, 2019
